Slide DMS062 [Jejunum; monkey; PTS]. Find plasma cells in the connective tissue beneath the simple columnar epithelium of the small intestine. This is loose connective tissue termed the "lamina propria".
There are numerous plasma cells in the lamina propria. The “wagon-wheel” or “clock face” chromatin pattern of the plasma cells, and sometimes the negatively stained supranuclear Golgi zone, is readily appreciated in this plastic thin section. Note the basophilic cytoplasm. Why do these cells stain so basophilic?.
